It was a pretty windy night and there were a lot of big trucks on what we had thought was a pretty minor road. At one stage, Garry was convinced there was a jet flying overhead, but it was nothing that exciting. So we woke tired and lethargic but fortunately did not have far to travel.
The road north was really beautiful, through countryside that was a luminous green from all the newly sprouting wheat. And this was wildflower country. Just out of Moora there is a wild flower farm which we plan to come back to, but the roads were lined with bushes that must look beautiful in September.

Many of these small country towns are so well cared for that it is obvious this is a prosperous state. They all have lovely parks with nice amenities, and there are often statues and murals decorating the town. As we drove up to Carnamah there were a number of mines (dolomite, mica, talc) and quarries (granite), as well as massive wheat storage depots. One of these at Mingenew is the largest grower fed receiving facility in the Southern Hemisphere. At least we had found the answer to the constant stream of trucks through last night.

At Carnamah there was a lookout over the Yarra Yarra Lake system. These are huge intermittent / salt lakes and they glowed a pink colour which contrasted with the blue of the water in them. It was a picturesque sight.

We got to Dongara / Port Denison for a late lunch and we booked into the park at South Beach. It is wonderful. Very protected from the wind and we have our own private little area about 20ms from the beach, surrounded by bushes that are full of birds and, it is hot.

This afternoon we went for a walk around the point and the beach was so inviting that we now plan a relaxing day around here tomorrow ... not sure about swimming but time on the sand is a definite!
